Be A Champion for Freedom of Movement

As 2024 comes to a close, we are reflecting on our work this year and contemplating the challenges ahead. Since 2016, we have fought for freedom of movement for all people. But we can’t do it alone! You can be a champion for freedom of movement and immigrant rights by supporting our work.

This year we have a goal of raising $15,000, which you can help us achieve by donating or becoming a sustainer of our work today. We are a small organization and try to do a lot with a little. Your support makes a real difference for us. Consider donating any amount towards our $15,000 goal today!

In solidarity,

Achievements in 2024

  • Free Migration Project provides immigration legal representation to low-income clients, with a focus on cases involving asylum, unaccompanied minors, DACA, family petitions, and victims of trafficking or domestic violence. Free Migration Project represents more than 90 clients in their immigration proceedings. We anticipate that along with immigrants around the country, many of our clients will face near-term risk of detention or deportation under the Trump administration, requiring a strong legal and community response.
  • This summer FMP joined the newly-formed Shut Down Detention Campaign which is fighting to close the ICE prisons in our area. One of those is Moshannon Valley, which is the largest ICE prison in the Northeast, and where people from PA and surrounding states are incarcerated by ICE.
  • FMP continued to lead the End Medical Deportation Campaign to organize throughout the country against the private removal of undocumented patients by hospitals. In the past year alone we have worked with community members, medical professionals, and advocates in Wisconsin, Indiana and Kentucky to stop medical deportations. We anticipate that even more undocumented patients will be at risk under the Trump administration.
  • We are working with grassroots partner VietLead to reunite families separated by harsh immigration penalties for past convictions. We collaborated to support refugees in the Southeast Asian community apply for pardons to restore their immigration status. We are representing “One”–a stateless refugee whose family escaped the genocide in Cambodia–in his legal defense. VietLead and FMP are mobilizing public support for One’s release before the next administration begins.
  • Along with the National Immigration Project of the NLG, we represented Miliyon, an advocate for stateless people who is stateless himself. We have partnered with United Stateless to represent stateless members and provide technical legal support. After fighting his case for more than two decades, Miliyon was finally granted asylum by the immigration judge this June.
